Online Tithing Payment Info

So I promised a few of you I would fill you in on how to pay tithing online once things got set up. Well, the day is here! Yay for us! I will try hard to make this as thorough as I can, without it getting too monotonous. There are two ways to do this. The first is to do a local bill pay, which means the ward gets the money. The disadvantage to this is that the ward clerk has to fill out your tithing slip for you. I guess you could fill one out in advance, but that's pretty lame sauce if you ask me. The advantage of this is that the Bishop will have record of your tithes (if that's important to you).

The second way (the way I set ours up) is through church headquarters. The advantage is that there is no filling out papers. The bishop won't know what you have contributed, but you just tell him you are sending it to church headquarters and you can still claim being a full tithe payer. Also, the church sends you monthly statements of your contributions, so you could always take those in to tithing settlement if you feel the need to prove you've been paying. Church Headquarters will also send you an end of year summary for tax purposes.

So to begin....

You need to fill out and send in a form called Bill Payment Service Electronic Donation Information. It can be found here: http://ldsclerks.com/index.php?title=Electronic_Donations

It's an editable word document, so I just filled it out on the computer and emailed it in. I got a confirmation email within 10 minutes of sending it.

From there you can go to your bank (I just logged in online), and set up a recurring bill pay. I guess each institution is different, but since Ben gets paid the same amount twice a month, it was easy for me to just set up a specific amount to be deducted then. That's it! It only takes about 20 minutes for the entire process.

Side note: You have to have your membership record number. You add that as the payee account number. It's also VERY specific as to how to make out the payee information. And wives who don't work but pay tithing jointly with your hubby: no worries. On the word document you fill out it has a column for your name to be linked to your hubs.

I hope that helps iron out the details. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. I'm more than happy to help out.

This is such a long post that I will fore go posting updates on our little family. Just know life is going well and we're excited for Christmas! Well, Ben's a little bummed that Santa gets credit for all the expensive stuff, but whatever! :) Loves!
